Robert de Vere, 5th Earl of Oxford
Was taken prisoner, at the Battle of Eveham, with Hugh de Montfort and others. He was later freed and employed by King Edward I "Longshanks" against the Welsh.
Ancestor of the Bassetts of Heddington, from whom diverged the Bassetts of Wycombe.
Sided with King Stephen against Empress Maud, and, consequently, his son was forced to forfeit the family estates to Henry III.
